Hello Tech Crew Families!

For those of you who have worked on other productions, welcome back!  For those of you working with us for the first time, welcome aboard! The show will be performed in the high school's Pendery Auditorium.

SCHEDULE
1. Rehearsals begin at 4:15 p.m. at the high school and are generally done by 6:15 p.m.  Crew is called to rehearsals April 6,April 7April 12April 14 (stage management should be attending rehearsals already - March 23 is the next).  Check the WMS Drama Blog at http://wyomingms.blogspot.com for rehearsal times and updates.  Please note the schedule is always SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

2.  Performances are April 15 and April 16 at 7:00 p.m.

3.  Front of House Staff should arrive at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:00 p.m. performances, on your assigned evening.  If you wanted to work backstage, but were assigned to Front of House, don't despair!  These are important jobs, too.  You will make sure the audience feels welcomed and comfortable when they arrive.  Plus, you get to see the show from out front, which most backstage positions don't get to see. :)

4.  All Tech Crew (except Front of House) should expect to stay after the Saturday evening show for strike.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW
1.  Please pick up your child promptly after rehearsals.  Tech Crew can expect to be finished 10-15 minutes after the scheduled end of rehearsal.  The directors cannot stay much later than that and we cannot leave your child unsupervised at the high school.  Please be respectful of the directors' time - they need to get home to their families, too.

3.  DRESS CODE for dress rehearsal and performances:  all backstage positions should wear black clothing, comfortable to move in. You must wear closed-toed shoes for safety reasons - no flip flops, no Crocs.  Shoes need not be black but should be dark.  Ushers should dress nicely.

4.  Amy Elliott does a fabulous job coordinating the Sign Up Genius for parent volunteers during rehearsals and performances.  Please watch for an email from her.

5.  Although the Variety Show schedule is not as demanding as the play or musical, be aware it can still be a tiring week for your child.  Please make sure they eat well and get a good night's sleep each night.  Keep in mind they will be welcome recipients of a little extra TLC during the week of performance.  :)

I am happy to do my best to answer any questions you have.

Cheers,
Wendy Dorn
Tech Crew Coordinator

2016 WYOMING MIDDLE SCHOOL VARIETY SHOW!

Thank you to ALL who auditioned for the 2016 Wyoming Middle school Variety Show!
Wow!  You guys really made the job TOUGH for us this year!  We had to cut SEVERAL acts in order to make the show work, but please know that many of the acts cut were well-done and well-prepared, but we had to choose the BEST and MOST well-prepared.  It was a VERY difficult decision!  Please note that there are specific guidelines to your act this year, and we WILL be VERY strict with the timing for each act.  In your act's category,  you may find that we want your act cut down to 2:50 minutes.  You WILL be timed, so please find a way to cut your act.  Honestly, it's not about QUANTITY but more about QUALITY, so PLEASE abide by the request and do not ask for special favors regarding your act.  Early next week, a list will be sent out specifying who is in Act 1 and who is in Act 2.  Act 1 folks will rehearse on Thursday of next week, so all of you should mark that on you calendars for now.  Please do your best to NOT MISS these rehearsals.  They are important to all involved.

VARIETY SHOW AUDITIONS!
The Variety Show is April 15 and 16 - you must be available for both shows.

The theme this year is USA.
The auditions will be on Wednesday, March 9.  From 4:15 -4:45 p.m. we will audition 8th graders who wish to be considered as emcees.  From 5:00 - 6:45 p.m. we will audition individual/group acts.
Rehearsals will be March 17March 23April 6April 7April 12April 14 - if your child is cast, they will be called for half of the rehearsals (depending which act they are in).   Spring break falls in the middle of this schedule so it is very important they are available when they are called.

The Sign-UP Genius link for auditions will be created and go live on March 1. You can also check the blog at www.wyomingms.blogspot.com for details.

When you sign up, you will HAVE TO LIST YOUR ACT with title of act, song title, and a description of what you are performing. You will also have to list everyone that is in your group.  Those who fail to do this, will NOT be permitted to audition.
Students may only audition for ONE thing (except 8th graders who may also audition to be an emcee).  There will also be an 8th grade closing number that will be approved.... details will be communicated to 8th grade families - this is in addition to anything else for which your child will audition.
ALL Acts are limited to 3 minutes.
ONLY REALLY WELL- PREPARED and WELL-DONE ACTS WILL BE CONSIDERED.  They MUST be polished and perfect at the audition to be considered for the show.  The rehearsal schedule is just waaaayyyyy too short to consider acts that need work.

It is a VARIETY SHOW - think outside the box and come up with something creative!   There is safety in numbers, especially for younger students. If only 20 acts are selected, solo performances from younger students are not as likely to be cast. They won't take 20 singer-songwriter acts-- so dance, juggle, do something different!  This is just parent to parent advice for when you are helping your child find something to audition as I like everyone to be cast, but they really can't take everyone. Make sure your child is well-prepared!

From Spring:    "If people do not know their song, or they choose the same song as someone else, they need to know that someone else may be chosen over them. They need to look at the sign up and list the song they are singing or playing or skit they are doing on the Sign Up Genius link or they will not be allowed to audition"

Thank you!
