Wyoming Middle School Drama

"Annie, Jr." Auditions!

The Wyoming Middle School will present the musical "Annie, Jr." on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17 at WHS Pendery Auditorium.
Auditions for this production will be Monday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 1 at select times between 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in the choir room at WMS.

The TOP TEN THINGS  you need to know BEFORE signing your child up for an audition:
1.  ALL Wyoming Middle School students are invited to audition - the musical is for 5th - 8th grade students.
2.  Please choose an audition time slot below. Students will audition in groups of 8, but other than the other students auditioning, only the directors, Spring Pillow and Tara Tuttle, will be in the room (no peeking, parents!). Plan on arriving for your audition 15 minutes early to check in.
3.  Bring COMPLETED audition form with you to the audition.  A parent MUST sign this audition form and list all conflicts (see below for more on conflicts).  Audition form can be found at: https://docs.google.com/a/konabistro.com/document/d/1UyswMSZn2e9dmBR19IHWqgtJtkH_EaB_FkK8v9FoVL4/edit?usp=sharing    (cut and paste this link in a new window).
4.  All students who choose to audition must prepare 16-32 bars of a song - NOT from "Annie" but from any musical or song you sound best singing. There is not an accompanist, so either plan on singing a cappella OR bring along speakers and a iPod to play the music.  There can NOT be other voices singing on the track so make sure you purchase a karaoke version of the song if you want to go this route (it's easy to do on iTunes).
5.  All students auditioning will be asked to perform a "cold reading" at the audition.  This is just where the directors will have the student read a character's lines from the script.  Don't stress about this part as it is all new material for every student.
6. A cast list will be posted on the DRAMA blog on Wednesday, September 2 (this is different than WMS blog:  address is http://www.wyomingms.blogspot.com/).  If your child is cast, they will need to attend the read-through on Thursday, September 3 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.  Then there is a Parent Meeting following that read-through at 6:00 p.m. in the WMS cafeteria.  At least one parent is expected to attend that meeting to meet the directors, submit a $25 donation check (for t-shirt, tech week meals, cast party), sign up to volunteer, and more. If desired, you will also be expected to pay for an optional but professional DVD for $20 at this meeting.  The meeting will only last 30 minutes.
7. Rehearsals will be held Monday - Friday after school hours.  Vocal rehearsals will be on the Fridays in September and Monday, September 21 from 3:20 - 5:30 p.m. in the Choir Room at WMS.  Acting/choreography/dancing rehearsals will be on the Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:15 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. at WHS Pendery Auditorium.  The tech week (week of show) rehearsals will last until 7:30 p.m.  There will not be rehearsal all 5 days of the week until tech week - so it will vary from week to week which day has no rehearsal.  Students are NOT permitted to stay at school unsupervised from 3:10 - 4:15 p.m. so please plan accordingly.  If you child is cast, a full rehearsal schedule will be given to you (and that will be very clear!).
8.  Students who are participating in a WMS Fall Sport:  You may audition, but you will NOT be considered for a lead role. There are simply too many conflicts between both activities to make this work for named roles in the production, but the directors want you to have the opportunity to audition.
9.  The directors understand that many students will have some conflicts, but this needs to be kept to a minimum given the short time frame to pull off an entire musical. Please know your student will be expected to prioritize the musical if they are cast. NO conflicts will be permitted at all during tech week (October 12-17, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.) so talk with your coaches, instructors, etc. now to grant permission to miss other activities that week. No exceptions will be made.  The show is October 16 and 17 at 7:00 p.m. - if you cannot attend one of these dates, DO NOT AUDITION.
10.  Students MUST list conflicts on their audition form. No additional absences will be accepted (obviously if your kid is sick keep them home!).  And, once again, NO conflicts will be permitted October 12-15 for tech week OR October 16 and 17 for the shows.  Plan accordingly.

I am simply the volunteer coordinator writing this.... if you have questions about this sign-up, please email me.  If you have questions for the directors, they can be reached at wmsdrama@wyomingcityschools.org.
Thanks!  Amy Elliott
